Extreme Disability can be cruel; some forms of neurological disease can be the cruellest. The brutal truth is that the vast majority of those with motor neurone disease (MND, also known as ALS or Lou Gehrig’s) are allowed to die very much earlier than they have to. Maybe their doctor doesn’t believe they would have an acceptable quality of life. Maybe their care would cost too much. Maybe they don’t want to be a burden on those they love. Maybe they think death is preferable to what they are advised will be mere survival, ‘trapped in the claustrophobic straightjacket of their own living corpse.’ The common denominator of all these heart-breaking reasons is the absence of HOPE.

But this is the 21st century! We are at the dawn of a new age. It’s becoming possible for hi-tech to transform the lives of those with Extreme Disability – whether through disease or accident or ‘old age’. Our research at last delivers hope where previously there was none.

However, we can’t do this alone. We really need your help. You can make crucial contributions in three ways: by making a donation, by spreading our story, by volunteering your expertise.
