Karen Jenkel

“I’ve always believed that the most valuable charitable causes are those that don’t merely put a sticking plaster over a problem but seek to solve it. On that basis, it’s hard to envisage a more worthwhile organisation to invest in than the Scott-Morgan Foundation whose potential to transform the lives of those living with disability knows no bounds.”

Born two months after the first book was published, Karen literally grew up alongside her father’s creation, eventually going on to run the Paddington business for over 30 years. As a result, she shares many of Paddington’s convictions, including his belief that you can achieve almost anything if you put your mind to it. Her father’s legacy has also put Karen in the happy position of being able to indulge in some philanthropy.

It was losing both her mother-in-law and a friend to MND that first drew Karen’s attention to Peter 2.0. She soon discovered that Peter’s story was about so much more than simply finding a way to survive this particular cruel disease. By the time she was only halfway through the book Karen already knew she wanted to support The Scott-Morgan Foundation, realising that what Peter had already achieved, an incredible feat in itself, was just the smallest tip of an enormous iceberg.

“When I first made contact with The Foundation, I felt very humbled to receive a personal reply from Peter. Little did I realise what this initial exchange would lead on to. Becoming a Patron is a huge honour and one that I intend to fulfil to the best of my ability.”
